Each year in March, the Australian Grand Prix is held at Albert Park Lake in South Melbourne -which happens to be only a few hundred meters from my office. One of the highlights of the Grand Prix is the aerial show put on by the Australian Air Force aerobatic team, the Roulettes. Here's the view I got from the rear car park at work :)

During March, we took a trip to J-Ward at Ararat. J-Ward was opened in 1859 and closed in 1991 - this was a prison for the criminally insane! Here's a few photos :)

Each year for the last few years, Reddit has had a Secret Santa gift exchange. This is my first year in, and here's what I received from my mystery gifter!
How neat is that! A nanoblock shuttle!! A big thank-you to the person who took the time to see what I was into :) There's a couple more photos on Flickr.

November 10, 2012 was McHappy Day and to do my bit, I thought I would head down to Macca's and have a Big Mac or two :) Parked out the front of the store was the DeLorean DMC-12 "Back to the Future" car!! How cool :) Click to Embiggen
The Doc was there to show people over the car - he let me sit in the drivers seat!! However, I wasn't allowed to take it for a drive :( Check out the full set of photos on Flickr

Every year I drag the kids along to the Melbourne Show. It's always a bit of fun. Looking at the animals, going on the rides, checking out the stalls selling everything from your name made from bent wire to rainbow coloured pens. I snapped a few photos while I was there.

Plasma globes, as they go, are pretty cool. The HAL 9000 computer from '2001 a Space Odyssey' was pretty cool too, unless you were Dave. For whatever reason, HAL just did't like Dave.
Anyhow, I figured what would be cooler than a plasma globe stuffed inside a HAL 9000 shell to sit on my desk where I can bask in it's plasmary goodness!
Laser cut from 3mm & 5mm acrylic, this stands 250mm high and is 100mm square. Inside you will find a 3" USB powered plasma globe. Want to make one? Get the files from Thingiverse! Some construction photos after the jump!

Being a child of the 70's, arcade games hold more for me than these xbox things... I've often thought about buying one - a real one - for home. I've looked at MAME cabinets and all sorts of options, but at the moment I've only got a little place with little space, so what I needed was a little arcade machine.
I drew this up over the last couple of evenings in CorelDRAW. It stands about 130cm / 5" tall and laser cut from 3mm Acrylic.

I have uploaded the CorelDRAW files to Thingiverse, you can download the files and cut your own :) |

I've been a Ren & Stimpy fan for ages. One of the funniest characters was Mr Horse. So I had a crack at making a Mr Horse rubber stamp :)

After a year of work saving and planning, on Friday my 'secret project' arrived - imported directly from the manufacturer in China. A 60w Laser Engraver/Cutter. The delivery driver placed it at the end of my driveway and departed.
The first thing was - OMG! It's huge! The pictures on the Internet really don't convey how big this thing is!
No, it's not a mail-order bride called Cathy
